Temporary lecturer in Economic and Social History – Utrecht University

The Department of History and Art History seeks to appoint a temporary lecturer in Economic and Social History.

You will be involved in high-quality teaching and supervision tasks within the regular programmes offered by the Economic and Social History group on the BA and MA level. Candidates are expected to teach a wide range of subjects, including those beyond their own expertise.

Requirements

  • Experience teaching undergraduate students and a commitment to thesis supervision and internships;
  • a clear teaching philosophy, which should be elaborated on in the motivation letter;
  • holding or willingness to obtain within two years, the Dutch University Teaching Qualification (UTQ; in Dutch: Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs, BKO).
  • the ambition and ability to contribute fully to the academic life of the research group and the department;
  • during the first year of employment, most courses will be taught in Dutch. As a result, only candidates who can immediately teach in Dutch will be considered.

We offer:

  • a contract for three or four years, depending on previous UU contracts, starting 1 August 2024;
  • a working week of 28 hours and a gross monthly salary between €4,332 and €5,929 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 11 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU);
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.

Interviews with invited candidates are scheduled to take place in Utrecht (Drift 6) on 12 April, with an option to hold them via MS Teams in case the candidate lives outside of the Netherlands.
