Prijs: D.J. Veegens Prize 2014 for Pepijn Brandon

The Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (KHMW) has awarded the D.J. Veegens prize to IISH-Fellow Pepijn Brandon for his thesis Masters of war: state, capital, and military enterprise in the Dutch cycle of accumulation (1600-1795) (UvA, januari 2013).

The prize is awarded every other year in recognition of research in the field of economic, political and/ or social history. In her assessment the jury looks in particular at research that contributes to a deeper understanding of past developments that are relevant for the Netherlands at present times.

Pepijn Brandon is currently working as a post-doc researcher on the project Slaves, commodities and logistics for which the IISH, VU and Leiden University received a NWO grant last year.
